It discovers, develops and analyses medicines. Suppose you’re considering a career in the pharmaceutical industry. In that case, this course will give you the knowledge and practical skills for success. The course incorporates pharmacology, toxicology, immunology and pharmaceutics (including formulation science). It offers a grounding in absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion processes, which underlies many of the toxicological and pharmacological effects of biological agents. In addition, we will discuss how drug formulation affects the bioavailability of a drug and how the physiology of the human system affects these processes.
The course also includes an introduction to immunology which is considered necessary as recent developments in drug development involve antibodies as therapeutic agents. From a broader perspective, significant factors involved in the effective and safe delivery of therapeutic agents to human populations will be reviewed.
